Welcome to

Daily Discipleship for Women!

“Keep thy heart with all diligence;

For out of it are the issues of life.”

Proverbs 4:23, KJV

Hi, Ladies!

This outreach ministry to women began after I closed down and retired from running the nonprofit called Daughters of Christ Ministry, Inc.  Joining my husband in retirement has been a spiritually refreshing time where the Lord has been able to bring needed healing and revival to my soul.

Through the ministry platform of “Daily Discipleship for Women,” I provide free biblical counseling, teaching and training to adult women, who are seeking to know or already know Jesus Christ as Savior.  The founding verse (Proverbs 4:23) captures the ministry focus I believe God put in my heart close to 30 years ago.  (See my Proverbs 4:20-23 lesson on my Bible Lessons page.)

Here’s why I use Proverbs 4:23 as the founding verse for this Daily Discipleship for Women outreach.

In the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, this verse starts with the word “keep.”  Since I don’t know the Hebrew or Greek languages, I am at the mercy of people who know and study these languages to help me understand the meanings of Bible words and phrases.

The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible defines the verb ‘keep’ to mean “to guard.”  So, as I sought the Lord for the website URL address He would have me to use, I was reminded of Proverbs 4:23 as the founding verse, and guardthyheart.net web address was born.

So, as I counsel, teach and train women using the word of God, the goal is for each of us to order our life according to the will and word of God so that our life will bear spiritual fruit to God’s glory.

Free biblical counseling sessions are offered via online video conferencing and telephone appointments.  I purpose to facilitate women in being intimately connected with Jesus Christ through the teaching of His word (the Bible), prayer and the sharing of His gospel message in clear, easy-to-understand ways.

Free biblical teaching and training are offered via this ministry website, online video conferencing appointments and speaking opportunities at Christian women’s events upon request.

In a day and time where suicide is on the rise — where men, women and children are dying to leave this pain-filled life in a hurry, there is an ever growing need to tell people of the hope, joy and peace that is to be found in this life.

Well, technically, those wonderful blessings are not found in “this life” but are found in a Person.  Will you please take this reading journey with me as I explain what I mean?

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” ~ Romans 1:16-17

This above passage found in the Bible (God’s word) teaches us that the gospel of Christ is the power of God that brings salvation to every person on this planet who believes in Christ as Lord and Savior.

Let’s unpack this further…

This word, the “gospel,” means ‘good news.’  And, Christ is mentioned by His title (Christ) and name (Jesus) throughout the New Testament (latter 27 books) of the Bible.  The New Testament calls Jesus the Son of God, because He was “begotten” of God the Father.  Jesus is talked much about throughout the Old Testament (first 39 books) of the Bible but by other names like, “Elohim,” “Yahweh,” “Jehovah” and “Immanuel.”  Immanuel means “God with us.”  So, Jesus is “God with us.”

The good news of Jesus Christ is that God came to earth in the form of a human man to walk among us and do what only God could do for us.  You see, Jesus was without sin (https://www.gotquestions.org/definition-sin.html).  God hates sin and declared that all sin had to be punished.

Now, this is a much longer story that you will read about in the whole Bible from start to finish.  For now, I will simply tell you that Jesus became sin on our behalf.  The fact that Jesus was without sin qualifies Him to be the only One Who could stand in the gap for us.  He took everybody’s sins of all time upon Himself and allowed His own people to crucify (kill) Him for our sins.  If you just thought, “Wait! WHAT?!,” I understand.  Please read on…

Yes, holy God became Man to take all of our sin upon Him, and He paid the ultimate death penalty that our sin deserves.  While that is a big chunk of the wonderful “good news” of Jesus Christ, there’s even more good news to this whole story.

After being dead for three days, God raised Jesus (His only begotten Son) from the dead.  This is called ‘resurrection.’  His resurrection offers us, who believe in Him, the promised hope of resurrection life after we leave this earth through natural death.  And, now, Jesus sits at the right hand of God continually making intercession (praying) for all people who will spend eternity with Him.

So, all of this amazing work done by God through Jesus Christ is God’s loving provision for you and me to believe in Jesus as the only way of salvation and to have everlasting life with God.  He does not want any person to die in their sin, because that would forever separate them from God in eternity in a horrifying place called the Lake of Fire.

Now that I have talked about God’s part, let’s look at our part in having a reservation in God’s eternal kingdom with Jesus.

Mark 1:14-15 says, “Now after that John was put in prison,

Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand:

repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Upon hearing this amazingly ‘good news’ of Jesus Christ, we will either believe it as the truth or reject it as a lie.  The Bible tells us a bunch of times and ways that there is only one way to get to God’s eternal kingdom.  That one way is through Jesus Christ.  He tells us that we must “by faith” “believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ” for salvation in order to be saved and experience eternal life in Jesus.  (…saved from the eternal punishment that our sin deserves.)

There is nothing you and I can ‘do’ to earn favor with God and be saved by Him.  Why?  Our sin is in the way of us earning our way into God’s kingdom.  Remember, our sin had to be put to death because God hates sin.  But, oh dear lady, does God ever love you and me!!!  To clarify, God HATES sin, but He LOVES you and I (the sinner) — so much so that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus to earth to die in our place so that we could forever live with Him in eternity.

Now, in the process of coming to God by faith in Christ Jesus for salvation, we must “repent” our sin and “believe the gospel,” as Jesus said in the verses above.  To repent means that we have a complete change of mind concerning these the things that lead to our salvation through Christ Jesus.

We go from not believing in Christ for salvation — to believing in Christ Jesus as the Savior (God in the flesh).  We believe that Jesus is the way, truth and life, without Whom we can never spend eternity with God.

We go from wrongly thinking we are generally a good person who should be allowed into God’s kingdom for all our good deeds, or perhaps wrongly believe we are too bad of a person to be saved — to realizing that no matter how little or much I have sinned, Jesus paid the death penalty for me (something I could not do for myself).

We go from wrongly thinking that we have to ‘do’ something to earn our way to everlasting life — to agreeing with God that there is nothing we can do to earn eternal salvation.  Our salvation is by faith alone, in Christ alone!

Once we accurately understand and believe that Jesus is God and that Jesus is the only way for us to be saved and given everlasting life in God’s Presence, then we must by faith truly trust in God for salvation through Jesus Christ.  We do this by agreeing in our heart and mind that the gospel of Jesus Christ is real and true.  We turn away from a lifestyle of sin, which is any disobedience to God, and decide to live a lifestyle now of ‘doing life’ God’s way.

By doing so, we enter into an everlasting covenant with God where He promises to keep us securely in His family until our life ends on this earth and we go home to Him forever.

Love, Surrender and Submission

Once we are saved as a child of God, God calls us to a life of loving Him, surrendering our whole life to Him and living moment by moment in submission to Christ’s Authority in this life.  If that sounds impossible, I promise you it is not.

God makes it very clear in His written word (the Bible) that the people who love Him are people who joyfully obey Him from a heart of love for Him.  Since all of us are new to this process when we first enter a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, God helps us by His Holy Spirit to love, honor, obey and serve God for the remainder of our life on earth.
